Get Involved!

Skipton Primary School has a very active parent and friends community.  This community engages in projects at the school, supports fundraising activities and leads learning activities.  Below are some of the ways you might like to get involved in the school's activities!

Parents Club

Parents Club run monthly meetings at the school.  Parents Club provide significant fundraising support the school.  Recent activities include the Mango Drive, Baked Potato Days, the Easter Raffle and Hot Cross Bun Drive.  These funds are used to support school activities.  One recent purchase has been the microphone equipment for our school concerts.  You can get in contact with Lisa Wills (the Parents Club President) via the school office to get involved!

School Council

School Council meets eight times per year and provides the governance requirements for the school.  School Council meetings are on Monday nights during the school terms.  Some items that are unpacked at School Council meetings include finance, camps and excursions, curriculum, policies, safety and school hours.  You can get in contact with Les Meek (the School Council President) via the school office to get more information.  School Council election are held each March and interested parents and community members are required to nominate for the role.

School Sub-Committees

The School Council operates four sub-committees to support its work.  These include:
- Finance
- Environment & Grounds
- Teaching & Learning
- Policies
Parents and community members are invited to participate in these sub-committees, particularly if they are in an area of interest for you.  For more information, Nick Keating (School Principal) sits on all committees and could provide you with further information.

Become a Parent Reading Helper

Picture
For the first time this year, parents and family members were provided with training to support students in their reading.  Interested volunteers participated in a 90-minute short course in how to conduct effective reading conferences with students.  These volunteers come into our school for one hour on one day per week and provide extra opportunity for students to read aloud and talk about what they are reading.

Other parent training sessions will be run in Term 3, 2021.  Another new session, with a particular focus on Number support is being planned at the moment, so stay tuned!

If you are interested in contributing to the school's relentless pursuit of excellence for all students, please call the school and speak with Nick Keating (School Principal).

Volunteer to Support School Activities

The school is regularly seeking volunteers for a wide variety of learning programs.  These opportunities are usually published via the newsletter and the closed Facebook group.  Some examples include:
- the swimming program
- Science & Sustainability excursions in the local community
Please feel free to volunteer for these opportunities - your support is always appreciated.
