School aims for the program:

1. Increased student awareness & interest in aquatic ecosystems

2. Increased student understanding of the relationships between terrestrial and aquatic environments

3. Develop a sense of responsibility & "ownership" for local waterways, which may lead to increased participation in community waterway activities and rehabilitation.

4. To develop student understanding of water quality issues in relation to the creek and across Australia.

5. To demonstrate techniques to involve students in monitoring the health of the local creek

6. To establish ongoing involvement and possibly a monitoring program in conjunction with the existing National Waterwatch monitoring program

7. Increase student awareness of the platypus, its habitat, the food chain and preserving it for future generations.
