Grade 5/6 Tasmania camp 2011

On Monday 10th October 2011, Skipton Primary’s 5/6 students flew to Tasmania for a one week camp. Little did we know that it was going to be a memory for a lifetime opportunity.
At 5am Monday morning, we boarded the bus and headed for the Tullamarine Airport (Melbourne). Once we arrived at the airport, we had to do the usual check in and the other compulsory things. As we were walking into the waiting area, a lady announced over the speaker that we were able to board the plane. After waiting for a little while, we finally took off for about an hour flight to Hobart.
When we arrived in Hobart, we travelled to Port Arthur, a place of gruesome, convict history. Port Arthur was once home to convicts who had committed second crime offences. Port Arthur had many different punishments for bad behaviour, for example taking away blankets and shortening the amount of food you were given for a meal. After exploring the Tasman Peninsula we travelled back to Hobart for more learning of this wonderful state.
During our stay in Hobart, we explored many of the wonderful sights that surround this magical capital city. Some of these sights included, Salamanca Place (well known for its spectacular weekend markets), Mt Field National Park, Tahune Treetop Walk, The Docks, Richmond, The Old Richmond Bridge, Zoodoo Wildlife Park, Cadbury Chocolate Factory and many more wonderful and well known places. We stopped at all of these places and enjoyed nearly every one of them in their own individual way.
On the last day we visited Cadbury’s Chocolate Factory located in the suburb of Claremont. John Cadbury was born in Birmingham in 1794. In 1824, he opened up his first shop. Apart from selling tea and coffee, HE sold cocoa and drinking chocolate. The factory in Claremont only makes Turkish Delight®, Flake® and Cherry Ripe®.
We also visited ZooDoo, not far from Richmond. ZooDoo is the wildest wildlife park we have ever encountered. The zoo is home to emus, Tasmanian Devils, farm animals, wallabies, camels, monkeys and other WILD animals.
Our last destination in Tasmania was Richmond. It has lots of history and heritage including the Old Richmond Bridge. The Richmond Bridge was built by convicts during their labour time. It was completed in 1825.

During our one week stay at Tasmania, we all came home with a lot more to knowledge about one of our states. We all really enjoyed this camp and this memory will stay with most of us for the rest of our lives. As well as completing day-time activities, we also participated in night-time activities which were the Ghost Tour, Ten Pin Bowling, a night at the Movies and a Disco Cruise cruising on the Derwent River.
Grade 3/4 Camp to Bimbi Park

On the 21st of October 2011 the grade 3's and 4's went to Bimbi Park for three days and two nights.
They went to the OTWAY fly is about 80 meters tall. They went whole way up the tower which is about 85 meters tall.
They went to the twelve apostles but instead of seeing the twelve of them they only saw nine. The twelve apostles are a small rocky tower which is separated from the land.
They went to the OTWAY light house where they got to go all they way to the top and walk around the outside at the top. They also walked around the park area while they were there.
The lochard gorge is the place where Tom and Eva survived the ship reck. The ship was called the lochard so that is how the lochard gorge got it's name. The grade 3's and 4's went there and they got to walk on the shore where Tom and Eva found land to survive.
At Apollo bay the grade 3's and 4's went fishing and the only thing that they caught was some sea weed and a stick. What a good day of fishing!
We also went to for a short snack and the also walked along the beach at port campbell.
Grade 2 Mooramong Camp
On the 24th of November the grade 2 set of for a wonderful adventure to Mooramong for their camp. 7 of the students went with 2 teachers.
They all learnt many things about the interesting place.
While they were there they did some bird watching and saw a snip. They also went on a scavenger hunt. When they were on it they saw some bandicoots.
Also while they were there they went in the homestead. All of them loved the homestead the best. They found out some great history about Scobie and Claire McKinnon. Claire was an actress and they got to see her wig and her gown that she wore when she was acting.
The came home on the 25th o December and they sounded like they had a great time on their camp, and it would be a memory for life.
